Pass the knife, Igor….
Right. Now you’ve seen what you’re up against..and you’re sure you want to go on-lets do so!
You’ve no doubt noticed that on your PC (as with the vast majority) there are all manner of cards and cables sticking out to stop you cleaning easily. There is only one answer here-TAKE ‘EM OUT!
It’s not as hard as all that, luckily. Look at the cards. At the back of them there is a metal bracket, fixed by screws or a lever to the PC. Simply remove these screws, or move the lever out of the way and carefully pull the cards out of their slots in the main board.
Make a note of the card positions before you do this! It’s always good to refit them back where they came from, after all..;) Simply put the screws in a safe container, and once you’ve removed the cards put them on another piece of newspaper.
If you see obvious fans fixed to the inside of your PC that look dusty, you can remove these if you wish as well. Make a note of how they’re fixed first.
Once done, you should see the main board (Motherboard) a lot better. You can see the slots where the cards go, the microchips that make the PC do whatever it is that PC’s do, and more than likely a lot of dust. This is good. Honestly!
If you feel so inclined, you can (after noting locations and fitting direction) remove the ribbon cables inside the PC. The big grey things that transfer hard disk data to and from the PC. DO NOT remove any smaller wires unless you’re 100% SURE of their exact fitting.
I leave it upto you to decide if you wish to clean the cards first, or the board first. It’s the same principle either way.
With the parts accessible, lets go kill some dust…
